This project was born from a fascination with Kirkgate Market which started when I moved to Leeds. I wanted to celebrate the history, people and communities that make this place what it is today.
In early 2021 I spent 2 weeks in the market, working out of the old Cafe on the balcony of the 1904 Hall, drawing, listening and wandering around the market. This then evolved into this body of illustrations, collages, a historical timeline and a textile wall hanging.
The work was exhibited in the 1904 Hall of Kirkgate Market in one of the unused stalls.
Made possible with funding from Leeds Inspired.
